That’s great that you got a pet that you really like and (even though you didn’t want him in the first place) want to care for him properly. Cockatiels are great first birds and you should have many years of enjoyment. Your first question is what to feed him. Pretty much anything he will eat. Of course, stay away from caffeine, loaded sugar and extra salt – and alcohol, but that should be obvious. Another thing that is a NONO is avocado, believe it or not. Another poster listed several great things for birds to eat, including apples, pasta (cooked or raw) most vegetables and believe it or not, eggs. And yes, you can offer him chicken too. My birds love chicken and tuna. For a few days only, you can offer wild bird seed, but because it usually has so many sunflower seeds it is not good to give for very long. (Sunflower seeds are like candy to most birds and they will gorge themselves on them.) You said your bird is trying to come out of the cage. Why not allow him to come out? He can be
