Can a Circuit Breaker Trip if Short Circuit happens before it?

Well first if you have a short then there would be a massive amount of amperage used and this would happen in an appliance. What it sounds like is you have an open. This means that the wire has separated. Anyway. This was probably caused by an overloaded circuit and the amperage draw caused the wire to overheat and separate. This would have happened within milliseconds by the time the breaker tripped the damage had already been done. I suggest that you replaced the damaged wire and remove some appliances from the circuit. If you would like you can check the label on each appliance and they will tell you the amp draw of each appliance. You should keep your constant load under 2/3 of the circuit breaker. Or just keep the amp draw at 10 amps or less.
