Can a check-in agent read an European Union Passport?
Two weeks ago I was traveling from San Antonio, TX to Madrid. I hold a Spain passport, European Union format that says “Union Europea” and then “ESPAÑA”. at check-in time I already had my boarding cards printed and was checking in my bags, then the agent asked me where my passport was from, I was surprised and I said “SPAIN”. Then she told me “it says “ESPAÑA”, I can only read English. I pointed out to her that all European passports have translations in several languages on the first page, and then she insisted she doesn’t have to know that.
