On One Hand: Yes, It CanA ceiling fan mounts to the underside of a metal patio roof; however, you must secure the fan with ceiling fan brackets to the wood or steel joists that support the metal patio roof. The ceiling fan won’t fasten to the metal roofing material without the brackets.On the Other: You Must Properly Install ItIn addition to the brackets, you must correctly wire the fan. The exterior conditions require extra care when installing and wiring the fan. Use exterior grade wiring, such as Type TW, and protect it with rigid metal conduit.Bottom LineYou can mount a ceiling fan to the underside of a metal patio roof, but you must properly install the fan both structurally and electrically.
