Can a car with a manual transmission be hotwired?
Yes. There are two or three things you need to do to any car to be hotwired. First is to turn on the ignition circuit. Second is to jump the starting system solenoid or relay. And finally defeat all the mechanical devices used to prevent driving the car without a key. All newer cars have steering wheel locks which prevent the steering wheel from being turned without a key, and if it is an automatic transmission you wont get it out of park unless the key is turned on. Manual transmissions don’t have this last feature which is a plus to getting it in gear, and also you can push start a manual car if the ignition is on by getting it up to speed and releasing the clutch. Your main problem is unlocking the steering column. Your second problem is finding out which wires do which. Color codes of wiring on cars vary by the make of the car. For example GM uses red, yellow, and sometimes purple for hot or 12 volts+ and the ignition switch has about 12-20 wires going in and out of it.
