There are limitations and requirements related to foreign (F-1) students attending public secondary/high schools (grades nine through twelve), under U.S. law. The F-1 status can be granted to qualified aliens seeking to enter the United States in order to attend a public primary/elementary school or a publicly funded adult education program. You would need to obtain a SEVIS I-20 from the school. In order to obtain the I-20 form, the school system would have to be paid for the full, unsubsidized, per capita cost of providing the education . It’s not tutition, it’s the cost of providing you with an education. The length of study indicated on the Form I-20 must be limited to 12 months. You could be admitted at a port of entry as an F-1 student for one year. That’s the maximum period of time that you could attend a public secondary school. If you want to attend a private secondary school, you can be admitted for a longer period of time. Foreign students may come to the U.S. to live with U.
