Can a bride learn to do her own calligraphy?
It’s like playing the piano—you really have to practice and become proficient at it. Do you work directly with most of your brides on invitations? I often have very little contact with the bride. This is because it is almost always done through a stationer or designer. I allow them to do the client interactions as they are generally familiar with the couple and I am just a part of the process. I very seldom have someone come directly to me to produce the entire ensemble. The stationers have the ready access to the lovely papers, embellishments, and printers, and that makes it much easier to work in this manner. What about if a couple just wants envelopes? Envelopes, on the other hand, are generally done through referrals, so this is where I get to meet the bride—and, as is happening more and more, the groom—if they are a local couple.
