Can a birth certificate or death certificate be notarized?
A California Notary cannot certify a copy of a birth or death certificate, but may notarize an affidavit of a person requesting a certified copy of a birth or death certificate. If you need a certifed copy, contact the state Bureau of Vital Statistics or county clerk’s office in the county where the birth occurred. For foreign birth certificates, contact the consulate of the country of origin.
