Can a Beowulf cluster be run on different equipment types?
Yes. Because of the use of a single central server unit, the system can be run across a platform of different types of units. Granted, because each machine will run differently, the allocations made by the server may not be ideally dispersed, which complicates the matter. Also, for the sake of simplicity and cost, we prefer to manufacture components of the same construction.
