Can a 70 Ib cross bow that can shot a bolt at 200 FPS pierce a human skull?
Yes, a bolt shot from a 70 lb-draw crossbow can easily penetrate the skull — even when tipped with a target/field point. How far it will penetrate depends on how hard it hits, the type of point, sharpness of broadhead/point, etc, etc, etc. Crossbows are extremely effective on large game such as Grizzlys, so have no doubt about how effective they can be on people. And just so your buddy knows, a “regular” arrow tipped with a broadhead, shot from a “wimpy” 46 lb-draw longbow (approx 180 fps), can kill large game such as Kudu (it’s an African antelope, comparable to the American Elk). It ain’t just about how “fast” the bow shoots, or even how “powerful” it is — it’s about how effective the ARROW (or bolt) is when used with the bow. The arrow (or bolt) does the killing. The bow is only the means of delivering the arrow (or bolt).
