Can a 4th year dental student function as a dental hygienist in a dental office with supervision of the dentist?
The student can perform the duties that any other dental assistant is allowed to perform with the same restrictions and freedoms. He/she cannot practice hygiene or dentistry outside of the dental school or one of the dental school’s approved externship programs. If the student is found to be performing the duties of a licensed person in the state of Kansas, it could adversely affect his/her future ability to obtain a license.
