Can 39 year old Roy Jones Jr. beat Joe Calzaghe?
I agree with basically everything you said, except for maybe how long it would have taken Roy to finish him- there is no doubt that he would have murked Calzaghe, but I don’t know about it only being in a few rounds; I think it would have most likely been a dominant points victory or maybe a late round stoppage. As for right now, I really can’t see Roy beating Calzaghe at this stage. Roy’s problem is that he is just not nearly as active in his fights anymore due to his age as well as him being gun shy (afraid of being knocked out again)- it took him 4 rounds to actually start fighting against an overweight Felix Trinidad. A high volume puncher like Joe Calzaghe would take advantage of Roy’s inactivity throughout the fight and most likely outwork him to a decision (kind of like the Bernard Hopkins fight). But, honestly, I’m okay with seeing a Calzaghe-Jones fight because as you said, it would be a huge event and I would really like to see Roy get that one last shot at becoming champ aga
