Can 1 person design a whole airplane?
Wilbur and Orville did it, but a modern airplane is so complicated that one person could not do everything; it would take a lifetime. There are many different systems that take different skills to design. The engine is probably the single most complicated part, but there are also mechanical parts to control, like the control surfaces and wheels, the ventilation and air conditioning, seats, storage of luggage, radar and gauges, aerodynamic design, emergency systems, and lots more. It’s a major design effort for a large team of people, and then the whole thing needs a lot of testing to make sure everything works together.
