Oldenburg was in West Germany after WW II. In 1946 Schaumburg-Lippe, Brunswick-Lüneburg, Oldenburg and Hannover were merged by the British administration and given the name of Lower Saxony. It is one of the sixteen states in the Federal Republic of Germany. The reference place names are Germany, Oldenburg and Germany, Preußen, Schleswig-Holstein, Oldenburg.
