Anhalt has been known as the Kingdom of Anhalt and the Province of Saxony (Provinz Sachsen). It was located in East Germany after WW II. The new State of Saxony-Anhalt was created shortly before the reunification of Germany, consisting of the former Anhalt, the former Prussian Province of Saxony and a small portion of Brunswick-Lüneburg.
