Buying a home: Does agent cost?
It all depends on the real estate laws in your state. In many parts of the country, like my state of Arkansas, it doesn’t cost extra to have a buyer agent. The way it works here (and in many other places) is that when a seller lists the home, he agrees to pay a commission to his agent (the listing agent). When the listing agent puts the property into the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), the listing agent states the percentage of the commission that the listing company is willing to pay the selling company (your buyer agent works for the selling company). All of this is already included in the purchase price, since the seller will have to pay the listing agent the commission whether the listing agent or another agent from the listing company sells it or whether an agent from another company sells it.
