It is appropriate for deprived LAs to receive increased shares of capital resources because such areas are likely to require a higher level of some capital works e.g. estate improvements to reduce crime (e.g. re-modelling poorly designed council estates, installing CCTV, lighting). Increased levels of cyclical maintenance and responsive works are likely in deprived areas. We have not found any evidence that for a particular archetype authorities in deprived areas require significantly more frequent replacement of building elements than in non-deprived areas.
