All the BSDs have binary packages you can install and they will install prereqs too if you have those available from the media you are installing from. They can be downloaded and install over the internet easily. Even hardcore ports fans might download packages for large things like OpenOffice. Binary packages also come in handy with systems with limited hard drive space and systems where you don’t want to install the sources and compilers (i.e. firewalls for security reasons, etc.). You can also setup a machine on the network to build packages setup the way you like and share it out the rest of your network. This comes in handy if you have multiple machines to support.
