British citizen naturalisation, whats the process?
Firstly you need Indefinite Leave to Remain, and you would have passed the Life in the UK test at that stage. After you have ILR for one year, it is simply a matter of applying on form AN and waiting for the decision, which can take several months. Once you have the decision, if you are accepted, you attend a citizenship ceremony organised by your local council at which you swear allegiance to the Queen. Edit – well thank you very much for thumbs down for a totally accurate answer. I have a friend who has done this so I KNOW. And my boyfriend is German so we’ve thought through this a lot – as another EU citizen, the only benefit being a British citizen would bring him is that he could vote in elections for Parliament.
I don’t understand why you would want to become a British citizen because you are from the EU. You can live and work in the UK with out a problem. That’s your right. Britain is in the European Union. If you are looking for a British passport they will not give you a passport just like that. And the cost is very high and will take along time. By January 2011 the laws in the UK are changing and these laws are going to make people in your situation even harder to apply for British citizenship. because there is no need.
