Boyfriend assaulted, do we have a court case here?
Personally i dont think going to court is the best way to resolve things, if anything it should be the last option. Is it not possible that your boyfriend and this other guy could come to some sort of settlement or agreement privately? As much as it wasnt called for at all sometimes it best to just leave people and not ‘fight’ over a fight. Just try to speek to this other guy and well, if he doesnt want to do anything to make things better then he’ll have to live with the results of his own actions. Remember the ‘law’ is not as just and fair as we would all want it to be and it cant always solve issues. Let it go. YOu’ll have a lot more piece about it in the long run. You’re actually stepping higher than the guy who punched your boyfriend but letting it go and moving on. This is just my opinion. Forgiving will open your life to a lot. Your boyfriend should’ve filed the police report right then and there, because if he was truly innocent he would’ve had witnesses. You may be a tad too late for filing a charge now, but try it anyway. Call your local precinct first and tell them what happened and see if they’ll do a report for you. It will back up your claim in small claims court because you’ll need to submit the Dental bill. By the way, it may cost more than $2,000.00 Did your boyfriend go to an emergency room afterwards? If not, that was also a mistake, now he has no documented evidence for ‘proof’ that he was punched in the face. You definitely have a small claims case here. It’ll cost about $25.00 to file the paperwork for small claims. However, your jurisdiction may only pay up to $3000.00 while some areas pay up to $6,000.00 You may want to speak to a lawyer and file a civil suit for future medical bills. The lawyer may be also able to sue your friends homeowners insurance policy for the damages since it happened
