Books made into movies. Which do you enjoy better: read book first, watch movie first, or do either one only?

It really depends on the movie. With mystery or thrillers, it’s best to read first so watching doesn’t ruin the ending. Then you can gauge the movie based on how they did putting the book on film. You’ll probably be frustrated by the director leaving out your favorite parts of the book, but you’ll sometimes find that they re-write the whole story to keep it fresh for you. But if they change the end, I don’t like it. The Count of Monte Cristo (2002 version) is a good example of keeping it fresh, and I liked some of the changes, but it felt like a very different story than reading the book. This second group is movies that got me interested in reading the book. In fact, The Count of Monte Cristo was the first movie that inspired me to read the book. Also Les Miserables and The Three Musketeers were movies I watched before I read the book.
