Bluetongue isn’t circulating, why bother to vaccinate?
While we have not seen re-emergence of circulating disease in 2008, the situation in mainland Europe is much worse, with over 22,000 cases of BTV-8 in France alone in 2008. This presents a serious risk of re-incursion of vectors across the English Channel as well as through the legitimate trade in animals. Vaccination is the only effective tool to protect against infection.
