Beyond treatment, how does a former meth user stay drug-free?
Treatment isn’t an event; it’s a process. The inpatient stage of treatment allows the addict to begin to develop coping skills and other tools to overcome the urges to use drugs again. Support is absolutely essential to ongoing recovery. Many treatment centers encourage patients to continue in individual therapy following discharge. Participation in peer support groups such as Crystal Meth Anonymous is also recommended. This program is based on the Twelve Steps, originally developed in Alcoholics Anonymous.
