better than a bar grate?
There are two major problems with standard bar grates. When you burn a fire on a bar grate you raise the fuel and create an air space between the bar grate and the firebox. This allows coals to fall under the grate and that is why bar grates burn out fast. They are being burned from two sides. This also allows for an inefficient fire because too much air is allowed to the fuel.
