BEng or MEng?
Don’t worry – the choice between BEng and MEng degrees isn’t as confusing as it sounds! Basically, you choose to study either a four-year Master of Engineering (MEng) or a three-year Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) programme. Both are accredited by the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET), so you can be sure they’re valued qualifications. You should choose the MEng degree if: • you want to become a Chartered Engineer – this is recommended by the Engineering Council as the most direct way to become professionally qualified; • you want a career in industry or teaching. The BEng degree might be more appropriate if: • you want to combine a first degree with a postgraduate qualification; • you’re a mature student or have non-standard qualifications; • you want to be an Incorporated Engineer or a Chartered Engineer via a work based graduate training programme; • you’d like to study engineering but don’t want to become a Chartered Engineer, or are an international student who doesn’t ne
