Beijing Olympics: Basketball: How did the Aussie Mens team (Boomers) finish 4th in their pool?
Having a look at the Basketball tournment summary, the place in the pool doesn’t seem to matter. They seem to have ranked all the teams from both pools and Australia comes out 5th above Croatia. The draw then shows the top 8 playing off on a 1st vs 5th system. Which is not exactly a fair system. edit: It is weird that the combined ranking, is correct for wins and for and against ratios, but also works out exactly as A1 vs B4, A2 vs B3 etc using a 1 vs 5 system on the combined ranking. If Australia is higher than Croatia on the combined rank then clearly they should be higher in the pool. So they’ve either stuffed up the pool ranking or they’re not using the A1 vs B4 system despite saying they would. It’s strange to say the least.
