BED JAIL IN TOTEM LAKE?
One of the proposed East Side jail sites is at the corner of 126th ST. and 132nd St. at the Waste Management site there. This is located next to the old steel plant (looks like a big abandoned warehouse on 124th. A 640 bed jail would represent yet another destructive influence on the Totem Lake neighborhood. The City of Kirkland hasn’t published their decision, but the annexation flyer they are mailing to the PAA eludes to a need for a larger jail. They almost certainly mean this giant jail complex in our neighborhood. The Jail would be just far enough away from downtown Kirkland and the waterfront to be out of site of the Kirkland City Council. Perhaps this will be spun to us as ‘lower taxes through dramatically reduced home values near the new jail!’ or something.
