Because of the 6-day collection schedule can we put out more than four containers on collections days following the weeks when we do not have garbage collection?
No, the 4 Container Limit will apply. In the first two months of 2006 a survey of the number of containers placed at the curb in London found that 99% of households are in compliance with the 4 Container Limit. In 2000, we did a survey of the number of containers placed at the curb in London from April 3 to May 8. This time frame included the Easter long weekend and also covers a traditionally heavy period of waste generation (i.e., spring cleanup). We found that about 90% of residents placed four containers or less at the curb per pickup and 82% placed three or less containers at the curb. In 2005, it’s estimated that the average London household placed about 20 kg (44 lbs) of garbage at the curb each pickup. Divided over four containers, this is about 5 kg (10 lbs) per container. When a household produces more garbage (say double, or triple the average), four containers would still be adequate because the total amount would be between 40 kg (88 lbs) and 60 kg (132 lbs).
