Because it is so hard to understand for people who are not racist?”
Judging people for the color of their skin, which is not a choice anyone can make, seems ridiculous, and yet people do it. And not only do it, create stereotypes around it. People should be assessed on the basis of their actions, not their externals. I saw a thing online the other day about model Heidi Klum taking her husband’s last name, and I was stunned at the awful racist comments being leveled at her and Seal. Not to mention mockery of him over his appearance, even though he has a terrible disease which causes his skin to look the way it does. Then there was the justice of the peace in Louisiana who REFUSED to marry a mixed race couple last week, and there are still counties in the US where certain ethnicities are not allowed to own land. I think this shows that though we have come a fair distance since the 1960s, there is still a lot of racism in the USA, and an increasing hatred of ‘illegal immigrants’ (=people who are not white, I think) and lot of people don’t want to see it.
