Be warned, I find this one fun – no, there was no mummy. Snopes.com does an excellent job on the summery at http://www.snopes.com/horrors/ghosts/mummy.asp That hasn’t stopped a lot of us Titaniacs from expanding the story – at one point we had people believing that there WAS a mummy, having some passenger take it into the lifeboat and on to the _Carpathia_ (yea, like that wouldn’t be noticed and photographed!) We then had the mummy returning to England on the _Empress of Ireland_ (I’m assuming you know that shipwreck? http://www.pbs.org/lostliners/empress.html), being brought back from Europe on the _Hindenberg_ and being rescued by a passenger who lived in Florida, put into storage for a great many years, and then loaded on the Space Shuttle _Columbia_ that fatal day. Yea, riiiiiiiight!
