Natalie, Based on the facts you have mentioned, I would suggest that you ask your husband to start spousal petition for you (K-3). While he is doing that, you may try to apply for a B2 visa. No harm in that. While you say that you want to live in the UK, there is not harm in being able to live in the US as well. If and when you get your K-3 visa, you will be a permanent resident and be able to live and work in the US. It takes about 1 year to process but if you have the B2 visa, you can visit him as well. As a US citizen, he too can visit you even if he has a name change pending. Meantime, his passport is valid and can be used. For the B2, keep your plane ticket as proof. It might be needed. Good luck.
