ATA Drives Downward Compatible With Older Systems?
Yes, E-Disk® ATA drives are downward compatible. However, the E-Disk® ATA drives performance is reduced to the maximum capability of the system it is installed in. If an E-Disk® UDMA/66 ATA drive is installed in a system with a maximum capability of UDMA/33, then the E-Disk® UDMA/66 ATA drive is limited to the UDMA/33 performance. If the E-Disk® ATA drive is installed in a system with a maximum performance of PIO Mode 4, then the drive is limited to the systems PIO Mode 4 performance. The older the system, the more limited is its performance.
