At what age should a kid start brushing his teeth?
As soon as the teeth erupt!! I’m sure he is already having sugar in his diet which means he is already having plaque around his teeth. If he is not brushing he can get cavities just as easily as anybody else. It is recommended that children see the dentist for the first time around 1 year old and the earlier you brush/take them to the dentist the better they will do with it. I used to work for a pediatric dentist and we would see 3 year olds come in with so much decay that thy had to go the hospital and have their dental work done under general anesthesia because they were too young to be able to handle the hours of chair time it would have taken to complete all of the dental work.
I would recommend at the age 3 1/2 or 4. And when a child is brushing, supervise the child until good brushing habits have been made. A child’s tongue is very sensitive to taste, so be sure not to buy mint flavored tooth paste. To them, mint is very hot and they will spit it out right away. Hope that helps! –Jimmy, the wanna-be dentist. IN REPLY TO SOME OTHER ANSWERS. Two is an age too young for a child to learn how to brush their teeth. Dont forget to floss.
