At the moment I do not have any formal arrangement to share the care of my children. How can I formalise the care arrangements for my child/ren?
You could consider entering into a parenting plan, which sets out care arrangements for the children. A parenting plan needs to be in writing and signed by both parents. A parenting plan should include information about where the children will live at which times, and can also set out an agreed care percentage for child support. It can also include information about where and when changeovers will occur, special arrangements for days like birthdays, and what parents will do to try to reach new agreements if care arrangements need to change. There are meditation services that are available to separating and separated families through Family Relationship Centres. You can get assistance in making arrangements with your ex partner such as written parenting plans or agreements. If you don’t have a Family Relationship Centre in your region, you may wish to seek advice from the Family Relationship Advice Line on 1800 050 321.
