The reduction of CO2 emissions has been an objective for European institutions long before the present financial and economic crisis. The target agreed to by the EU in December 2008 is 130 grams per kilometer for 65% of new cars in 2012, 75% in 2013, 80% in 2014 and 100% in 2015.
