Assuming that there are 21-25 million internet users, what are the numbers you see in future?
A. The growth of the online industry is about 25 per cent. There are couple of factors which will accentuate this growth. One of them is broadband. VSNL is working on building that. Apart from that theres WiMax which Bharti is working on. Currently there are 77 million PC literate people in India, but not with internet connectivity. The internet penetration in metros among SEC A and B is 40 per cent. Youngsters are spending much more time on the internet, which is doubling every year. Earlier they used to spend about 2 hours a day, now its 4 hours particularly during vacations. Time spent on TV has also gone down. Thats the reason advertisers are warming up to the medium. Q. But a lot of young people still watch a lot of TV. A. Thats because they dont have a choice. They still have restricted access to the internet because of their parents. Even then, they are connected most of time they are always logged on. They also visit cyber cafes, which are sadly not covered by researchers. The
