While the District Attorney s Office cannot reimburse victims for their losses, the Georgia Crime Victim s Compensation Program can reimburse certain expenses to victims of violent crimes. Contact the Victim/Witness Assistance Program for more information and to obtain the appropriate forms. If the defendant or defendants responsible for your loss are successfully prosecuted, and any portion of their sentences are to be served on probation, the Assistant District Attorney assigned to the case will normally ask the Court to order restitution as a condition of probation. As the victim, you should receive a package of information from the Victim/Witness Assistance Program including a form for itemizing your losses.
