As the Secretary General of United Memon Jamat of Pakistan (UMJP), what are your responsibilities and how do you execute them?
AJK: Constitutionally the Secretary General is the Chief Executive of Jamat. This Jamat came in to being due to the efforts of Seth Ahmed Doud. Halari Memons or Kathiawari Memons are originally from Sindh so Sindhi Memons and Kathiawari Memons are the same. Cutchi Memons also went to cutch from Sindh. Seth Ahmed Doud gathered all Memons on a single platform of United Memon Jamat (UMJP). All Pakistan Memon Federation came in to being during 1950s. Initially it consisted of only Kathiawari Memons and there were lots of Jamats of Kahiawari Memons. So the then leadership decided to create unity to gather all Jamats to a single Federation under All Pakistan Memon Federation. This Federation was made just for the coordination between different Jamats and to create unity amongst all Memons. Due to this unity Memons are rendering their services in all entities of the country and their sense of belonging to certain areas has greatly vanished now.
