Most academic instutions, and many nonprofits and governmental agencies, have policies requesting or requiring the development of Web sites that are accessible to visually impaired users. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has organized the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) in an effort to standardize and promote the access of information for users regardless of their physical or technical readiness.
