As a veggo, do I have to cook meat in my home economics class?
Q Dear Uncle Dave, I recently started Home Economics classes at school and I was wondering what my rights are as a vegetarian. Do I have to cook meat or can I just watch? A Unfortunately, at this stage, vegetarians do not have rights as such simply because they are vegetarian. This is unfortunate because, for example, people who are religious often have more rights, in that they do not have to do certain things that are contrary to their religious beliefs. Vegetarians and vegans are often not considered in the same way. Not yet anyway. But regardless of your rights as a vegetarian, as a human being you ultimately do not have to do anything you don’t want to do. No one can force you to do something. This includes cooking meat in your home economics class when you are vegetarian and you therefore do not wish to do so. I can understand if your teacher wants you to do more than watch, so as a compromise why don’t you make vegetarian versions of what the rest of the class are making? For ex
