As a TCO, how can I best prepare candidates for the in-country ECL?
By becoming thoroughly familiar with DLIELC Instruction 1025.15, you can avoid problems that might otherwise occur before, during, and after the administration of the ECL. If you are able to meet with candidates before the test date, assure them that the ECL is not a test for which one can prepare, because it measures general language proficiency, not the learning of specific course material. The best advice to give candidates is to arrive at the test site early and rested, and to focus on each question without concern about the test results. As the TCO, you can possibly enhance overall test performance among the test-takers by ensuring that the test-taking conditions are satisfactory, i.e., that the room has adequate light, that the audio part of the test is clearly audible, and that the test-takers understand the instructions.
