As a Kansas notary, can I take a persons acknowledgment in another state, then return to Kansas and complete the notarial certificate here?
A. No. A notary’s authority extends no further than the geographic boundaries of Kansas. A notary cannot perform one part of a notarial act outside the state and the other part inside the state. Both parts must be executed at the same time and the same place inside Kansas. If the resident of another state cannot come to Kansas, he should find a notary public in his state.
