Aristocratic women of France 1800- what was their education?
Aristocratic women in France would not have received formal education. They were tutored at home by specially hired tutors. They would have been taught to read and write and do basic arithmetic. They would have received religious education in the Roman Catholic faith, and might also have studied literature and poetry. They also would have probably been taught needlepoint and other domestic skills (to enable them to run a household). But aside from the basics, that would have been the average education for a woman. Formal education in the universities was still limited only to men.
