Ok, so a Freshman is your first year in high school. Get it “Fresh” “Man”. Kind of like fresh meat. A sophomore is your second year in high school. A junior is your third year in high school and senior is your last year in high school. Usually freshman range from 13-15. Most people enter at age 14 and end at age 15. Our school years start in August/September and end in May/June. Sophomores range from 14-16. Most people enter at age 15 and end at age 16. Juniors range from 15-17. Most people enter at 16 and end at 17. Seniors range from age 16-18. Most people enter at 17 and end at 18. Sometimes 19. Here in the US, we have cut off dates. The cut off date is when you enter kindergarten. You have to be 5 by a certain time or you can’t start school until the next year. In my district, you have to be 5 by December 2nd I think. So, if you’re not 5 by December 2nd, you have to wait until the next school year to start. So, say a girl’s 5th birthday is December 21 2009. She can’t start school u

Depending on when your birthday is, kids can enter school as young as 4 years old. Then the oldest is 18. Kindergarten up until the 8th grade, have no fancy names.

In the average high school: 9th grade – Freshmen 10th grade – Sophomore 11th grade – Junior 12th grade – Senior My friend explained it to me in a way that made sense a few years back. Freshmen – You’re fresh, brand new, the babies of the school. Sophmore – Soft. Not quite brand new, but learning the ropes. Senior – Like a senior citizen, the oldest ones there. And Junior just fits right in the middle. 7th grade is another way to say Year 7 or Grade 7. It starts out with Kindergarten, which is generally 5-6 year olds. Each Grade goes up by each year.
