Aren’t wind farms extremely expensive?
Even though the cost of wind power has decreased dramatically in the past 10 years, the technology requires a higher initial investment than fossil-fueled generators, like coal. Roughly 80% of the cost of a wind farm is the turbines, with site preparation and installation. In terms of lifecycle costs, considering the negligible cost of water, fuel and transportation as compared to tradition plants, the cost of wind power is quite competitive.
