Live steamers are, by necessity, made of metal — copper boilers, steel frames, brass detail castings, etc. So to compare steamers with electrics, you must first choose comparable (brass) electrics, such as those from Precision Scale or Samhongsa. These electrics sell for several thousand dollars, and there is little reason to expect a live steamer with a similar level of workmanship to cost less. (In fact, Aster makes their steamers available in electric-powered versions.
