Aren’t the new faculty evaluation forms more demanding and involved to complete?
No. Although the new system may appear intimidating at first–in part because the instructions are rather long and detailed–most people will actually find it easier to complete than the old self-evaluation form. This is in part because the new form is more straightforward and objective, and faculty can complete them using a fill-able .PDF (Adobe) form. The instructions are lengthy because they serve as reference material to guide those who are uncertain regarding what kinds of things that fall under the different categories. For example, among six faculty, the time needed to complete the forms ranged from 25 to 120 minutes, and averaged 84 minutes. The variation in the time demands probably depends upon how many activities a faculty member is engaged in and how organized one keeps his/her information about publications, grants, teaching evaluations, and so forth.
