Aren’t paid firefighters better trained and better able to protect the community?
Volunteer emergency services in the Commonwealth go back to Benjamin Franklin, and have strong roots in the communities served. Volunteers go through intensive training- over 100 hours to make the minimum standard of Firefighter 1- and are encouraged to keep learning and training through their entire career. Fire companies also train on a local level, most meeting weekly.
