No. Common law marriage hasn’t existed in England and Wales since 1753. Despite this, over 50 percent of the population recently surveyed thought that it did exist. A government sponsored campaign to raise awareness of the common law marriage myth has had little impact on public understanding of the law relating to cohabitants.
