Scores were compared for patients on similar combination therapies including either AZT or D4T (groups 4 + 6 versus groups 7 + 8) who had not received any pretreatment (Table 6). AZT and D4T were equally effective in combination therapies including ddI or 3TC. The number of patients who improved was significant for AZT but failed to reach significance for D4T because of the low number of patients.
